| Abstract |
In situ measurements of cosmic dust provide us with information on spatial and orbital distributions in interplanetary space, and the physical and chemical properties of dust, which may elucidate the origin of the solar system.
From the beginning of space exploration, several kinds of dust detectors onboard spacecraft have been developed for measurements of cosmic dust. Cosmic dust detectors onboard spacecraft such as Pioneer, Helios, Galileo, Ulysses, Cassini, Nozomi, etc. measured dust particles from 0.3 to18 AU from the Sun and those onboard HEOS, HITEN and LDEF measured cosmic dust and space debris around the Earth. Dust particles around comets were also measured by detectors onboard Giotto and Stardust.
Dust detectors measure interplanetary dust supplied from asteroids and comets, beta meteoroids and interstellar dust.
In this seminar I will talk about dust measurement instruments, typical results of dust measurements and ground calibration methods for dust measurement. |
