Title: "Overcoming computational challenges to realize meter- to submeter-scale resolution in cloud simulations using the super-droplet method"
Abstract: Clouds interact with atmospheric turbulence across a wide range of scales. To understand such interactions using numerical models and to reduce the uncertainty in weather and climate models, it is essential to achieve a detailed representation of both turbulence and cloud microphysics simultaneously. In this presentation, using the super-droplet method, a Lagrangian particle-based cloud microphysics scheme, I report the results of improvements to the scheme and computational optimization to realize meter- to sub-meter-scale resolutions in cloud simulations. I also demonstrate the feasibility of such simulations using the supercomputer Fugaku. Additionally, I would like to discuss potential future directions.
